Radha Kund and Shyam Kund are considered the most sacred water bodies in Braj. Their origin story is deeply connected to Krishna's divine leela.
The Origin Story
According to mythology, when Krishna killed the demon Aristasura in the form of a bull, Radha and her friends refused to speak to Him, as the act was considered a sin. To purify Himself, Krishna created Shyam Kund by striking the ground with His heel.
Radha and her sakhis then dug a pond nearby using their bangles, which became Radha Kund. When they couldn't fill it with water, Krishna connected the two kunds, symbolizing their eternal union.
